  4. PROBLEM:  Character display is wrong.
  5.  
  6.           o  Symptom(s):
  7.  
  8.                1) Incompatible video modes.
  9.  
  10.                2) Characters are distorted, split, or missing the
  11.  
  12.                   bottom half.
  13.  
  14.                3) Double-size characters are being used.
  15.  
  16.           o  Solution:
  17.  
  18.                When switch number 5 is on, the Paradise video EGA
  19.                chip will automatically change modes when it
  20.                receives the correct codes.  This process is
  21.                referred to as auto-sensing. However, some
  22.                undocumented modes (such as double-high
  23.                characters) in the Paradise video chip don't work
  24.                correctly (Eg. when using Clipper, Procomm).
  25.  
  26.                     1) Turn off switch 5.

  30. PROBLEM:  The video controller is "burned out."  Is it possible
  31.           to disable the video controller and attach external
  32.           attachments to correct the problem?
  33.  
  34.           o  Symptom(s):
  35.  
  36.                Screen shows only two colors, red and blue.
  37.  
  38.           o  Diagnosis:
  39.  
  40.                Is this a WDM2 or WDM20 mother board model?
  41.  
  42.           o  Solution:
  43.  
  44.                1) If the Mate-12 is a WDM2, then the video       
  45.  
  46.                   controller cannot be disabled.  Replace the    
  47.  
  48.                   mother board.
  49.  
  50.                2) If it is a WDM20, then attach an add-on video  
  51.  
  52.                   adapter.
  53.  
  54.                     -  For add-on video controller:
  55.                          o  Ignore Switch S1, 1-5.
  56.  
  57.                          o  Remove Jumper W13.
  58.  
  59.                          o  Set Jumper W18:
  60.  
  61.                               -  3 and 2 for color monitor.
  62.  
  63.                               -  2 and 1 for monochrome.
  64.  
  65.                          o  Remove Jumper W23.
  66.  
  67.                          o  Set Jumper W24 for 2 and 1.
  68.  
  69.                          o  Remove the On-Board Video Jumper,    
  70.  
  71.                             located between the PEGA2 chip and   
  72.  
  73.                             WD10C20B on the bottom left hand side
  74.  
  75.                             of the mother board.

  79. PROBLEM:  How to add a VGA monitor on the Mate/12 ?
  80.  
  81.           o  Diagnosis:
  82.  
  83.                Is this a WDM2 or a WDM20 mother board model? 
  84.                (This information is displayed at the top of the
  85.                screen, at boot-up.)
  86.  
  87.           o  Solution:
  88.  
  89.                -  If the mother board is a WDM2, then it cannot  
  90.  
  91.                   be upgraded to VGA.  WDM2 was not designed to  
  92.  
  93.                   support VGA.
  94.  
  95.                -  If the mother board is a WDM20, then change    
  96.  
  97.                   these Jumper settings:
  98.  
  99.                     1) Remove Jumper W13 (Video IRQ9).
  100.  
  101.                     2) Set Jumper W18 on 3 and 2 for color       
  102.  
  103.                        monitor.
  104.  
  105.                     3) Remove Jumper W23 (Video Non-maskable     
  106.  
  107.                        Interrupt).
  108.  
  109.                     4) Set Jumper W24 on 2 and 1 for Video Data  
  110.  
  111.                        Buffer.
  112.  
  113.                     5) Remove the On-board Video Jumper, located 
  114.  
  115.                        between the PEGA2 chip and WD10C20B on the
  116.  
  117.                        bottom left hand side of the mother board.
