* * * MATE-12: VIDEO * * *
PROBLEM: Character display is wrong.
o Symptom(s):
1) Incompatible video modes.
2) Characters are distorted, split, or missing the
bottom half.
3) Double-size characters are being used.
o Solution:
When switch number 5 is on, the Paradise video EGA
chip will automatically change modes when it
receives the correct codes. This process is
referred to as auto-sensing. However, some
undocumented modes (such as double-high
characters) in the Paradise video chip don't work
correctly (Eg. when using Clipper, Procomm).
1) Turn off switch 5.
PROBLEM: The video controller is "burned out." Is it possible
to disable the video controller and attach external
attachments to correct the problem?
o Symptom(s):
Screen shows only two colors, red and blue.
o Diagnosis:
Is this a WDM2 or WDM20 mother board model?
o Solution:
1) If the Mate-12 is a WDM2, then the video
controller cannot be disabled. Replace the
mother board.
2) If it is a WDM20, then attach an add-on video
adapter.
- For add-on video controller:
o Ignore Switch S1, 1-5.
o Remove Jumper W13.
o Set Jumper W18:
- 3 and 2 for color monitor.
- 2 and 1 for monochrome.
o Remove Jumper W23.
o Set Jumper W24 for 2 and 1.
o Remove the On-Board Video Jumper,
located between the PEGA2 chip and
WD10C20B on the bottom left hand side
of the mother board.
PROBLEM: How to add a VGA monitor on the Mate/12 ?
o Diagnosis:
Is this a WDM2 or a WDM20 mother board model?
(This information is displayed at the top of the
screen, at boot-up.)
o Solution:
- If the mother board is a WDM2, then it cannot
be upgraded to VGA. WDM2 was not designed to
support VGA.
- If the mother board is a WDM20, then change
these Jumper settings:
1) Remove Jumper W13 (Video IRQ9).
2) Set Jumper W18 on 3 and 2 for color
monitor.
3) Remove Jumper W23 (Video Non-maskable
Interrupt).
4) Set Jumper W24 on 2 and 1 for Video Data
Buffer.
5) Remove the On-board Video Jumper, located
between the PEGA2 chip and WD10C20B on the
bottom left hand side of the mother board.
